A practice built on
steadiness and care.
Metta Counsel was founded with one purpose: to help families through hard moments without adding more stress. We work in Bangkok and care about doing this well.
Back to HomeWhy Metta Counsel Exists
The name Metta comes from the Pali word for loving-kindness — a concept deeply rooted in Thai culture and Buddhist tradition. It shaped the way we thought about family legal work from the very beginning. Legal matters within families are rarely just legal. They are personal, often painful, and they involve people who once chose to build something together.
Metta Counsel was established in Bangkok to offer a quieter kind of legal support. Not adversarial by default. Not built around urgency or pressure. Instead, we created a practice that takes time to understand a family's situation before suggesting a direction, and that holds every conversation in confidence.
We work with Thai families and with international residents who have made Bangkok home. Our practice is small by design. We keep caseloads manageable so that each family receives the attention their situation deserves.

Family Legal Guidance in Bangkok
Metta Counsel operates from the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, an area with deep historical roots in Thai civic and legal life. We work with families in Bangkok and with those who have international ties — expatriates, mixed-nationality couples, and foreign nationals navigating Thai family law for the first time.
Thai family law covers a wide range of situations: how custody and care arrangements are structured after separation, how child support contributions are calculated and formalised, and how mediated settlements can be drafted and recognised. Our practice addresses each of these areas with the same steady approach — listening carefully, explaining clearly, and drafting precisely.
The families who come to Metta Counsel often describe feeling overwhelmed. They are not looking for aggressive advocacy. They are looking for someone who will help them understand their situation without judgement, and who will work with them at a pace that feels manageable. That is the kind of support we try to offer.
Working in English means that international families and expatriates living in Bangkok can participate in every part of the process without relying on translation as an afterthought. Our documents and summaries are produced in plain English, and where Thai language documents are required by law, we prepare these too.
